Golf Balls And Cold Weather

What is black mold, and can it grow in my barn?

I live on a small farm with chickens, ducks, and goats. The barn that the animals live in was already built on the property that my family purchased about 7 years ago. Today, while checking on the animals, I happened to look up and see a roundish black thing that looked like it was growing out of the ceiling. There was what appeared to be black “mold” spreading farther out around it. The roundish thing was about the size of half of a golf ball, possibly bigger. It was totally black and appeared to be some kind of spores or mold. It is the middle of winter and below freezing where I live-and has been this cold for months, which makes me wonder if mold could even grow in these weather conditions. I am also wondering if this has possibly harmed my animals, or could potentially be a health risk for me. Thank you for any help!

Some form of toxic mold has been known to grow in 35 degree weather and can grow in 50+ degrees but mainly the mold seeks out warmth.

I would consult a certified mold professional or a mold removal company to come take a look at it if you are unsure, never try to attempt to clean the mold yourself unless you know what your dealing with and have the proper face mask.
